PR Se Pyaar

When we think of Mr. Narendra Modi, what do we think of?

  • Is it “A leader of this time” – Reason for the Modi Wave?
  • Is it “A Great Orator” – Reason of droves of people turning up at his rallies and his public events?
  • Is it “An Amiable Gentleman” – For the throes of hugs and handshakes shared with the global personalities?

What does a thought about Virat kohli brings to your mind (Apart from Anushka Sharma,Ofcourse)?

A fearless player? a Go-getter? Self-Made? Ambitious? Iconic?

While it’s a biblical truth that the men mentioned above have shed their blood and sweat to reach at the Zenith of their fields but it is no less a truth that there have been scores of people putting their PR brains or infact dedicated PR agencies at times creating, enhancing and maintaining the images of these popular figures in the minds of the stakeholders or the public at large.

PR and image consulting, as opposed to plain advertisement, is different in their approach and the results. Long story short – Advertisement involves paying for publicity whereas PR entails everything but money for meandering the image in the minds of masses.

PR se PyaarYou can read more about What Does A Public Relations Agency Do?

You must be wondering that all these gimmicks are the whims of either the rich and the famous or the big money minting brands only and you as an applaudable creative mind in disguise of a common man barely need any image building. Umm, Yes..If you are extremely happy keeping your potential under the hood and letting your life pass by as a common man.

But if you think otherwise, if you choose fearlessness as a way of life, then you deserve the fame. And branding yourself amongst the audience of the game you wanna lead is one most important step missed by almost many.

As mentioned by a leading PR agency #BitesizePR “If you are hoping to get the word out there about your business, public relations is the answer”, we add to it by saying “If you are hoping to get the word out there about your own self, Personal Branding is the answer”.

Just like PR, Personal Branding has a number of interesting advantages like:

  • Credibility –

“No amount of money can buy someone credibility” – Dan McLaughlin (golfer)

Whether you are a salesman or a CEO, an amateur in your game or a pro, credibility will win you respect, command and trust.

  • Target Audience – Just like Ferraris aren’t sold in Fiji, you need not be a buzz of every table. Knowing your target audience will help you focus your energies in a single direction. For Example, If you are a C-Level executive looking forward to make a switch, you need to be more visible in the networks of Executive Hiring companies than anywhere else.

  • Cost – Since Personal Branding isn’t transactional, that is – it is not concerned with one particular deal but it is how you are being perceived as person in your social network, both online and offline, its results span beyond the professional life and any cost is less as compared to benefits it is sure to reap for you.
  • Confidence – When your positive aspects are polished and brought to light regularly, as your Personal Branding exercise will have you do it, your confidence is sure to be boosted which is a way for kick-starting the positive spiral in life.
  • Focus – Personal Branding makes you focus on what’s right for you and how you can use it to your advantage. This sorts a lot of clutter around your life goals and let you focus on being the best in the game you are in.

While it is true that Personal Branding will apply a shiner on your personality and will help you fine tune a lot of aspects of your life, it is no substitute for the hard work and consistent wins because packaging always complements performance but never substitutes it.

Impact of Digital Marketing on Consumer Behavior

With the boom of Smartphones and Tablets, Digital Marketing has reached a new high. People who were previously unrelated to the field are now learning about it and are excited for the same. The era has changed do much that if a person does not have a Social Media account, he/she is looked down on. So, how does a marketer gets to make use of Digital Marketing?

syndacast.com imet global

  1. Consumers now have their own benchmark of what “Looks Good”

With advent of Digital Marketing, the consumers are a troubled soul, they have different definition of “what Looks Good” to them. They will compare an FMCG product’s service with that of TV’s service. They expect one brand element to be equivalent to another brand’s element. There have been instances where people tweeted on FMCG companies’ handle on how let’s say Samsung has a better Quality of Service than what they provide. I mean these two products are far apart. But, consumer is King. So, now every company has to be on their toes now because, they are now competing with anyone and everyone on Social Media Space.

2. Consumer Tolerance is reducing at an alarming level

Consumer wants response as fast and as clear as possible. It takes merely one Viral tweet or post to destroy or build a company’s rapport. Platforms like, mouthshut, quora, twitter, facebook, etc. are being used by consumers to share their misfortunes that they had faced with a company. Negativity attracts people and this is human psychology. Very few users will put a grateful post on FB or Twitter. To tackle such situations, a brand must follow ORM strategy (Online Reputation Management). ORM is basically a management system where you respond to people who are talking about you. If they are talking good, then thank them and ask to visit your website. If they are talking negatively about you, ask them to chill and ask them to register a complaint on the helpdesk. Make sure that the helpdesk solves the problem because again the customer will go to Social Media, but now he/she would be even more angry! Such interactions create a positive impact on people.

3. Consumer Dialogue- Word of Mouth

Word of mouth is still one of the most effective marketing tools. Before Digital Marketing people used to ask elders, or people who have domain knowledge of the specific product they are about to buy. But, now the list has new entries like Rating, Reviews (User and Expert), Testimonials, etc. The decision of a consumer to buy a product, online or offline, they will first Google search it, then they will go to review sites and read what experts and users have to say about the product.

4. People are not afraid of experimenting

Gone are those days when people are afraid of using a new product and would use it only when somebody else puts a trust deal on the product. Now, a new product with good features and quality is lauded with applause by our consumers. Best example can be Renault Duster car. This car became national sensation in a very brief period of time. It was also not backed up by a trusted brand like Maruti or TATA. Experimenting concept prevailed and due to which many companies like OYO, Uber, Ola, etc. came to life.

5. Consumers are now switchers instead of Loyals

Loyalty in consumers is now an extinct feature. There was a time when people in India just had a trust in one brand in mobile phone industry, NOKIA. Now, NOKIA is nowhere to be seen. Likes of MNCs like Samsung, Apple is now being threatened by new comers like Oppo, Xiaomi, Gionee, One+, etc. Flash sales and people getting mad over these low cost ultra-features phones. Another close to home example is Patanjali, Baba Ramdev initiative. Patanjali has made MNC sweat. Colgate accepted that they have a new competitor in town. Patanjali as of now is a Rs. 5,000 crore company!

6. People use more than one Social Media channels now

It is not upto brands to decide which social media platform they want to be on. It is now decided by the consumers. If consumer is on FB, Twitter, Snapchat, Vine, G+, Tumblr, Instagram etc. brands have to be present there. They have to interact with people to create a buzz among them. Once a positive buzz is created, word of mouth spreads like fire.

Brand now cannot and should not avoid Digital Marketing.

Here are top 5 Things that we should learn from this Social Media Star:

Success does not happen overnight

If you are one of those dreamers who think that success will come to you all by itself, then you should listen to this. Lilly Singh was a depressed soul in 2010. She thought that if she can make herself laugh then people might laugh at her jokes too. She uploaded her first video and guess the viewers, just 70! Lilly Singh, the current YouTube star could not even get more than 100 viewers. She made up her mind. She worked hard, upped her content quotient and quality and she is successful today. The amazing numbers that you read above, it took 6 years of hard work and dedication to reach that level

2. Consistency is the Key

What if, Superwoman tells you that she will update her videos biweekly, Mondays and Thursdays. You as her subscriber are waiting and Superwoman did not upload any video that week, you will feel bad and might not look into her channel deliberately for the next update. Lilly Singh makes sure that she uploads videos on time. She even records them when she is down with fever, cough or cold. This happened one time that she could not upload her video because she was on the last stop of her World Tour and her flight landed in Canada. She profusely apologized to her fans. This is what we call professionalism. Did I mention, she was regular in her updates during her World Tour. She was in Rio, USA, Canada, Australia, London, etc. even then in her own hectic schedule she was there on YouTube making us all Laugh.

3. Engage with the Audience

Engagement is one of the Primary keys which makes Superwoman apart from others. She reads the comments, both critiques and good ones and replies back wherever necessary. She considers the topics sent by her fans in the comment section. When she makes videos on them she always mentions the fan’s name who suggested the idea. She also has her vlog channel (Video Blog). This vlog covers her back-stage and behind the scenes part and also shares her daily routines. She organises World Tours to engage with the Audience in person. Engagement is the key to build a better brand.

4. Collaboration is important

Lilly Singh has time and again proved this. She collaborated not only with fellow YouTubers, but also with Hollywood stars. She worked with James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jay Sean, Kunal Nayyar, AIB, Madhuri Dixit, Selena Gomez, etc. She knows the power of collaboration and does not shy away from it.

5. Experimentation can be good

As it is clearly specified by me that her forte is Comedy Videos. But, who said that Superwoman can only be stuck in that image. She is also a Motivational Speaker, mainly for Women Empowerment. Apart from this, she is also a Rapper. She has just released her Rap Video named Voices. Check it out here.

Now, if you are not impressed by this 27-year Superwoman, I don’t know what do you expect from people.

Google Duo App Review

google-duo

You know that when Google does something, it is ought to be good. The young kid in the block is the Trending Google Duo App for Video Calling. In less than 24 hours of its launch, the app has been downloaded from Play Store 10,000 times and counting.

Question is why should I ditch Skype or Facetime or even Google Hangouts for that matter?

It is no denying that Duo has entered into an arena which is already crowded, Video Chatting space. Skype is killing it on Desktop, Hangouts on Android and Facetime on Apple. Let’s now talk about Duo. This is an extremely basic, no frills app.

The app can be downloaded from here for Android and here for iPhone.

The Setup

  1. The setup is very easy. You launch the app, it will ask your phone number. Then the app will verify it by sending an OTP (One Time Password) code. Your phone is now SET!
  2. Now, it will take you to next window where all your contacts will be listed. Two sections will be there, one for the people who already have Duo app and for others you will have the option to send an invite.

Wasn’t that easy?

Let’s move to the Pros and Cons section. Before we start with that, it must be noted that Duo is specifically made for mobile devices- Android and iPhones.

Pros:

  1. This App is crazy light.
  2. As mentioned above setup is very easy.
  3. Direct call feature. No hassles. Just click the contact and call is placed.
  4. The “Knock-Knock” feature. Well this is the Showstopper, or what differentiates Duo from other apps with same functionality.

So, what is Knock Knock, it is basically a live preview of the person calling you over Duo! You can see what he/ she is donig without accepting the call.

5. I tested the call personally over WiFi and Cellular network (Vodafone 4G). The call quality was excellent over Wi-Fi and very good over cellular network (data).

6. Fast on Slow Networks.

7. The calls are end to end encrypted, to make calling secure.

Cons:

  1. No Video Conferencing. Well to be honest Duo is advertised as one-to-one video calling platform. But an option for Video Conferencing will help a LOT!
  2. As stated earlier Duo is made for Mobile devices and platform ONLY!
  3. iPhones are famous for giving nightmares to App Developers. Duo’s showstopper Knock Knock will not work on iOS, iPhone
  4. Again in iPhone, you will have to unlock the device first before accepting or rejecting a call over Duo.

Well, all said and done. I personally liked the App. It is a stripped down basic app version of Video Calling and this is what makes it lighter, even on Google Play Store, this app is a little over 7MB. I urge you to at least try the new App. Also, a new chatting app by Google, Allo is coming up and is gearing up for launch soon.

Role of Perception in Digital World

Has it happened with me only or you have observed this too that you went to a shopping center and ended up buying much more than you planned. I think we share the same fate at some point of time being consumers. And followed by it you, just like me, have deliberated over the question as to why did you buy that extra pack of Maggie or a different brand of deo and we successfully convince ourselves that we needed it, Did we? Or we just perceived we needed it. Perception, not a need led us to shell out those extra bucks. And mind you, this was very well thought of plan of the marketer of that shopping store. Rather, perception as a basic human instinct is very smartly used by marketers across globe over various platforms to influence course of actions.

As you must have observed by now, perception, as an ingrained behavior, influence a lot of our actions and may or may not be true in every case,

More than physical world, it is driving the online world these days.

In the digital age when Facebook alone has more number of active users than the combined population of china and USA, every click on the web creates, alters, mars, and modifies perceptions.

Understanding the fact that consumers are surrounded by a plethora social media content, every moment some companies like apple are allocating a majority of their marketing budget to expand their online presence and also enhance customer’s perception towards their brand while few like Big bazar are spending on online channels to make most of their offline strategies.

The ability of digital media to allow the companies to reach very specific segment instead of beating around the bush and the opportunity of exponential word of mouth on digital platforms makes it enticing for the brands to have their own extensive social media marketing strategies.

Individuals are no less than brands in this competitive age. It is a fact that every click on the web is being viewed. So it’s only wise to build a thoughtful perception of the “Brand you” as it is an era when the social media followers matter than the number of bullets in your resume. The problem is – not everyone has skills to create their personal brand and thus stay devoid of the immense possibility it brings forth.

Here is where short term personal courses like the one offered by IMET Global can be a game changer. Pooled with the social media marketing, content management and personality development develop it instills practical skills and knowledge using which we can hit the ground running.

Mind you, Perception precedes action.

So, why not show your perception about the ‘perception in the digital space’. Comment below to share your thoughts with us!

Twitter Dashboard

Twitter is a powerful tool and is one of the preferred Social Media platforms used by Celebrities and Companies to be in contact with their fans and customers. Twitter knows it. There have been issues where people talked negative about a company on Twitter and due to high volumes of tweet exchanges every day, that tweet in particular is lost and so is the opportunity to fix it. Now what?

Twitter had silently launched a Dashboard platform for Businesses and few people know about it. The dashboard can be accessed by http://dashboard.twitter.com. The Dashboard has three options:

  • Home
  • Create
  • Analytics

iMET GlobalHome:

In Home, there are further three categories, About You, Your Tweets and Timeline. In About You section, Tweets where your business is mentioned either as a handle or hashtag or even simple text gets listed here. In Your Tweets, simply what you tweeted gets reflected here. At last, in Timeline, simple twitter home feed gets displayed.

Create:

Here you can compose a tweet. Now comes the feature, DRUMROLL Please, The Schedule Tweet Feature. With this feature a Business can tweet at certain intervals without sitting on the edge of the seat and wasting time and resources.

Analytics:

Basic Twitter Analytics like, Number of Tweets, Media Tweets, Replies, Audience (Followers – list of new followers, Mentions), Visits and Views on your profile, Tweet impressions. In second tab, Tweets where you get the impression per tweet and engagement per tweet. The interface (UX and UI) is different, in a good sense, from traditional Analytics page.

Even the Dashboard has a whole is a fresh look altogether.

Instagram Stories vs. Snapchat

Both of them are shining Titans in media sharing social media space. Instagram is backed by Facebook (When Facebook bought Instagram for $1 Billion). Snapchat is backed by Snapchat Inc.

instavssnap

IC: mashable.com

Instagram is already very famous and people love it too, but Snapchat has also gained massive popularity specially among Youngsters. For the uninitiated, prime feature of Snapchat is that the image or video that a user uploads has a life span of 24 hours. After 24 hours, images are automatically deleted. Instagram’s, before the new update, prime feature was sharing images and videos on Social Media space and they remain there until the user decides to delete them.

As a marketing perspective, Instagram is a much better option but not Snapchat. By statistics, in 2016, Snapchat had 10 billion daily video views! Obviously Instagram was threatened by Snapchat. They looked into the age demographic, youngsters aged between 15 to 24 are using Snapchat heavily and their Instagram usage is significantly dropped. The decline started in 2015. Instagram sprang into action and a new update was launched on August 2, 2016.

This new update is named as ‘Instagram Stories’. Stories update is nothing but a Carbon copy of Snapchat. Here also, the images or videos being uploaded by the user will disappear after 24 hours. Kevin Systrom , CEO and co-founder of Instagram in his latest interview clearly accepted that this feature is directly taken from the books of Snapchat.

A primary question arises, can Instagram get away with blatantly copying Snapchat? Intellectual Property lawyer, Jeremy Harris, clarified this question. He said that Snapchat will not have a case against Instagram. A case can only be made when it is proved that Instagram has copied the source code of Snapchat. This, I highly doubt.

According to Arti Rai, a Duke law professor, copyright and trademark laws do not cover adoption of a feature till the interface of both apps is different.

People started moving towards Snapchat because of this unique feature, but now that Instagram Stories is launched, will it attract more youngsters? According to me, yes it might because people know Instagram and they use it. If they find that there exists a same feature for which they installed a separate app (keeping in mind the size of Snapchat app), they might tend to shift back to Instagram. At the end of the day, it’s the User experience which will decide the fate of Instagram Stories.

Sooner or Later Instagram had to do this. Now that Instagram has copied the entire concept as an add on feature, let us see how the market dynamics changes and will the wind move in favour of Instagram or people will stay on Snapchat. Only the time will tell.
